A Fiancé Visa provides the ideal opportunity to come to the UK for your wedding and to start your married life. The Fiancé Visa is valid for six months. UK Fiancé Visa General Requirements
To be granted a UK Fiancé Visa, there are certain requirements you must meet. These are:
- You AND your partner must be over 18 years old
- You must have met your partner before the application is made
- You and your partner must intend to live together permanently after you get married
- You and your partner must have suitable accommodation available
The fiancé visa is only valid for six months. You need to get married within that period, or else you will need to leave the UK.
UK Fiancé Visa Financial Requirements
When you apply for a fiancé visa you are known on the application as the ‘dependant’ and your partner is known as your ‘sponsor’. There are several financial requirements that you and your sponsor must meet:
- You must be able to prove that you have sufficient funds to support yourselves and any dependents (without the help of any public funds)
- If you’re a non-EU national, your sponsor must earn at least £18,600. There is a higher threshold if you have children who also need sponsoring. The requirement is £22,400 for one child and an additional £2,400 for each additional child
- The sponsor must either have worked for their current employer for six months or longer, or have held a minimum of £62,500 for a continuous period of 6months before an application can be submitted
- Sponsors can combine their earnings and savings to make up these financial requirements
Specific documents must be submitted alongside applications to prove these financial requirements are met. Income and savings will be checked along with their sources as not all types of income source are allowed. Sponsors must be able to prove how long they have been receiving forms of income and how funds are combined if they come from different sources.
Exceptions to Financial Requirements for UK fiancé Visas
If your sponsor receives any of the following benefits or allowances, your application for a UK fiancé visa will be exempt rom the above financial requirements:
- Carer’s allowance
- Disability living allowance
- Personal independent payment
- Severe disablement allowance
- Attendance allowance
- Industrial injuries disablement benefit
English Language Requirements
To be granted a UK Fiancé Visa you must prove that you can get by in English during your stay in the UK. There are a few ways you can do this, including:
- Passing the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test to level A1 (Usually Fiancé Visa applications only need to pass the speaking and listening sections)
- Having a degree that was taught in English
- Coming from an English-speaking country
